Lot 136 Colt Government Model .45 ACP #C85993
‘Factory Lettered’ Early commercial 1911 semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP. Manufactured in Hartford, CT circa 1917. Factory letter states it was shipped to Richards & Conover Hardware Co., Kansas, MO and Oklahoma City, OK, May 15, 1917 in a 15 gun shipment. This exact 1911 was sold by Little John's Auctions in the 1980's for descendants of the original purchaser who returned it to Colt in early 1960's to be re-barreled and refinished. Features a blued refinish, 5" barrel, round blade front sight , dovetailed ‘u’ notch rear sight, long smooth curved trigger, knurled wide hammer spur, thumb safety on the left side of the frame, grip safety, push button magazine release, factory 7 round magazine, steel frame, smooth straight mainspring housing with lanyard loop, and double diamond checkered wood grips that have been painted brown. Includes a two-piece Colt cardboard box with woodgrain lid, yellow end label, and reprinted documents. Pistol retains approximately 90% of its blued refinish showing minor edge wear, thinning, and a couple minor blemishes under the finish. The action is mechanically sound, the bore is bright with some minor pitting, and the painted wood grips are excellent with a couple minor losses.
